New York Fashion Week may be a little over a month away, but here at MTV Style, we don't just keep an eye on women's ready-to-wear collections. We keep our sights glued on all countries, seasons, levels of craftsmanship, and genders for style inspiration. Thus, we're warming up our trendspotters with the men's fall/winter 2013 London Collections. Here are the unexpected trends we've spied from the week's dude fashion forecast.

MASKED MEN

Kanye West closed out 2012 with a pair of high fashion face masks for his Revel Atlantic City concerts. Judging from this week's offerings via Alexander McQueen and MAN, 2013 might be the year the casual face mask becomes (a little more) mainstream!

FUNNY FACES

As with much of life, there's a balance to everything. If covering your face goes viral in the new year, dudes (and heck, ladies, too), you should be prepared to also wear another face on your chest. Get dark and edgy à la this Dawn Davenport-esque number from James Long or cute and kooky like these half cartoon face sweaters by Christopher Shannon.

HEFNER STYLE

Straddle the line between comfort and opulence with these seemingly Hugh Hefner-inspired shawl collar, waist tie robe jackets rendered for Fall/Winter 2013 by Rake and Topman.

CHILDHOOD FAVORITES

As the saying goes, the fastest way to a woman's heart is by... dressing up as prominent character from her childhood. MAN shows you how to channel Jolly Old Saint Nick, rosy cheeks and all, while Alexander McQueen advocates an updated Pee-wee Herman steez.

MAN MAKEUP

We know there are plenty of men who wear makeup — just ask any dude who's had to be on camera for anything — but looks as bold as these Vivienne Westwood and MAN beauty styles are a bit unprecedented, to say the least. Will 2013 be the year of black paint monocles and fake moustaches or of two-toned gold lips? Only time will tell.

INMATE ORANGE

Emerald may be Pantone's Color of 2013, but we can't ignore the multiple iterations of fluorescent orange in these London Collections. The head-to-toe tangerine look gets a little inmate-y at times, but the neon newness of it in a drab winter is exciting enough for us to ignore that.

LADIES ON THE RUNWAY

Female models are certainly not a surprise in the fashion industry, but seeing ladies waltz down MEN'S runways? That's another story. This week, not one, but two London Collections (Christopher Shannon and Hackett London) featured lady models in their runway shows. Do we think it will trend more than a few token walks? We don't think so. Are we using it to legitimize officially extending our shopping habits into the dudes' section? Yes, absolutely.

BONUS: THIS CRY FOR HELP

This isn't really a trend, but we couldn't leave the Sibling show out of this round-up. Poor guy. Hasn't he heard that it gets better? Let us know which of these trends you hope sticks come fall/winter 2013 in the comments below!
